New Pages and Linking (from http://yummy.pbwiki.com/WikiStyle)

  • If you use two capital letters in a word with lowercase letters in between, PBwiki will automatically recognize the word as a link to a page. For example, LookFunny and SandBox link to pages, but sandbox and Sandbox don't. If you use a word like FunnyWord but don't yet have a page called FunnyWord, you can create that page just by clicking on the word. (Until the page is created, the link will have a dashed underline decoration. This way you can tell at a glance which pages have been created and which haven't.) On the other hand, to prevent the word from becoming a link, add ~ in front of it.
  • You can also just type or paste in URLs like http://pbwiki.com/ or put [ ] brackets around a word. Brackets will force the word to become a link even if it isn't in the FunnyWord style.
  • You can beautify links by using brackets and |, like [http://pbwiki.com/|PBwiki] to get PBwiki.
  • Just type in email addresses like support@pbwiki.com.
  • Or type them in and beautify them by adding brackets: [support@pbwiki.com|help!!] gives help!!.
  • A special "top" link (to return a user to the top of the page) can be made with <top>. The top link can be customized by inserting your own link description inside the angle brackets: <top link description>.

Uploading Files

You may use a Word document, Powerpoint or any other format to present your evidence, insights or lessons learned. In order to contribute effectively to our collective learning please include the following information:

  • A brief description of the leadership development program, initiative or other effort to support leadership development (please include the target audience, the strategy or program design, and the desired outcomes)

Adding files to the wiki:

  1. Log in (if you are not already logged in), and from your Front Page, hit "Files" in the top menu bar.
  2. This opens the page for uploading and managing files. Click on one of the "Browse..." buttons.
  3. This brings up a dialogue box, where you can look for the photo you want on your computer. Select the file and hit "Open."
  4. This brings you back to the upload page and you will see the file name filled in.
  5. Hit the "Upload" button underneath the browse bars.
  6. Once the upload is done, you will be returned to this page. At the top will be a pink box telling you the file uploaded. Now scroll down to the "Manage Uploaded Files" section and you will see your file listed as a hyperlink.
  7. Click on the name of your picture. This brings up the picture in its own window.
  8. Look at the address bar -- this shows you the actual address for where your picture is stored. Copy the complete address.
  9. Go back to your Front Page (or other page to which you want to add a picture), select "Edit this page" and locate where in the text you want the picture.
  10. Now paste the address you copied there, making sure to put it inside of brackets [] (very important), then hit "Update" and your picture will show up!

Uploading Pictures

This FAQ was generously contributed by a PBwiki user.

Adding photos to the wiki:

  1. Log in, and from your Front Page, hit "Files" in the top menu bar.
  6. Once the upload is done, you will be returned to the files page.
  11. If you want the picture centered, do it like this:

<center> [picture address] </center>

For example, to upload the picture "harvey.jpg" when I clicked on the picture name, the address was http://coelacanthbooks.pbwiki.com/f/harvey.jpg So on the front page I put:

<center> [http://coelacanthbooks.pbwiki.com/f/harvey.jpg] </center>

    • Another option for adding pictures: If you have pictures online already (such as on your web page), just locate the picture, right-click on it, and select "properties." Copy the address, and then paste this between brackets on your wiki page in the location you want.

    • One last note, your pictures need to be the right size before you put them up, or if you know HTML, you can use standard image commands to alter the size of your image.
